The Electrical Water Pageant is something that you won’t likely find on a theme park times guide. Instead, it’s the way that many Guests end their days at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The Electrical Water Pageant is a sort of “surprise” show on the Seven Seas Lagoon which can be seen while waiting for a monorail or ferryboat at the end of a long day of theme park fun.

Magical is the new fireworks show at Disneyland in California. It is being released for a limited engagement as part of the “Summer Nightastic!” event which includes a plethora of other nighttime excitement.

Fantasmic! is presented at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. My prior post discussed the differences between the two shows.

I have discussed the new Disney resort at the National Harbor complex in Maryland with friends, and we all have had the same question – what will make Disney’s resort any different from the others that are a part of the development? Some would suggest that Disney’s signature quality of Guest service would make it different from these other hotels and resorts. However, the other companies – Gaylord, Hampton Inn, Westin, Wyndham – also have a great reputation.

Here are my seven ideas for things that could make Disney’s resort distinctly different:

  • an indoor water park, along the lines of the Great Wolf Lodge chain. These would greatly appeal to families with children, as evidenced by Great Wolf’s recent advertising on Radio Disney.
  • connection with Adventures by Disney. Some media reports have already suggested that having a “home base” for Adventures by Disney trips in the capital region is a possibility. This would help build the Adventures by Disney business.
  • live entertainment. Disney Live! (produced by Feld Entertainment) is a fairly well-known endeavor, and a permanent show could work well in a facility like this. The Broadway version of The Lion King has recently opened at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas. Having a show could make the National Harbor project into a great destination for a family’s long weekend.
  • including a sports-themed area. The ESPN Zone is run by Disney Regional Entertainment, making use of the strong ESPN brand which is owned by Disney. There is already a location at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, so it might not be the most likely option.
  • making it a “Disney Mecca.” Based on the expiration of its lease, it looks unlikely that the World of Disney store in New York City will be there much longer. Entertainment components at the store (character meet and greets) have already ended. Creating an area in the Washington, DC area with a strong Disney theme in a similar idea could make it a stop not just for those who are Guests at the resort, but for Disney fans throughout the area.
  • creating an even more upscale experience for Disney Vacation Club Members. The existing Disney Vacation Club resorts are already an excellent experience for Guests. In fact, they are already called “Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts” for Guests who are not Vacation Club members. However, there is a high-end customer who would prefer to stay at a Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton, and their needs are not met by Disney’s existing products.
  • unique dining experiences. Disney theme parks and Disney Cruise Line have already created great themed dining options. Bringing something like Animator’s Palate or or Whispering Canyon Cafe to a location apart from an existing Disney destination resort could make it a spot where even locals would want to stop!

What are your ideas as to what could be included?

SpectroMagic is the current nighttime parade at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. It is presented in a style reminiscent of the Main Street Electrical Parade.

Disneyland Paris ad
Ad (c) Disney

At a glance, this classic ‘thumbs up’ sign emulates the effect that Disneyland Paris has on children worldwide. However, on closer inspection, the hand in this visual only has three fingers – just like Mickey Mouse. By offering a potentially human element to Mickey Mouse this campaign radically challenges children’s perception of Disneyland and is a further incite to visit.Print ad from BETC Euro RSCG, Paris

– description from BestAdsonTV.com

It appears as if this is a real advertisement from Disneyland Resort Paris, since we even have information about the advertising agency responsible for this ad. It definitely connects strongly to the image of Mickey Mouse (the four-finger connection), with corresponds to the current celebration at Disneyland Paris, Mickey’s Magical Party. What I don’t see, however, is any sort of call to action (eg. Book now), which is uncommon for the Disney Parks ads I have seen.

After watching some of the awesome videos of the international Disney theme parks, I’m sure many of you would love to get the music from the parades and fireworks shows outside of the United States. I did a bit of research and found a way to purchase music from the iTunes Store in other countries, most notably Japan.

Purchase an iTunes Japan gift card from a vendor like JBOX.com or a seller on eBay. You can then follow the instructions provided by JBOX.com to create an iTunes Japan account.

You will then be able to download such music as:

You’ll have to pay a bit of a premium to get the gift cards from another country. Trust me, though, it’s well worth it – this is material you can’t get anywhere else!

Disney’s Electrical Parade (formerly known as the Main Street Electrical Parade) is now found at Disney’s California Adventure in the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. This parade was the inspiration for several other parades, including Spectromagic at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, as well as a variant at Tokyo Disneyland called Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights.
